DraftKings Early MLB Picks For June 2

There are onlyĀ three afternoon games on this Thursday, which makes this the smaller tournament of the day. There are a few good options. Let’s find out what the past stats say!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Kenta Maeda has never faced the Cubs, but his 3.00 ERA and 1.05 WHIP suggest that he isn’t overmatched by major league hitters. He is still a bit of a risk at Wrigley against the Cubs though.

Aaron Blair has never faced Giants, and is a pretty big risk anywhere right now. There are plenty of other options, even in a light day.

Best Bet:

Kyle Hendricks ($8,900): There are two bigger names, and higher prices, on the board this afternoon. So why did I go with Hendricks? Check out these career numbers against the Dodgers. The Dodgers are hitting only .179 off of Hendricks in two games. They have hit two home runs and only struck out five times, which keeps Hendricks off of most elite lists, but considering the career numbers of Greinke and Bumgarner against their opponents, Hendricks looks like the best on a small slate.

Honorable Mention:

Madison Bumgarner ($12,900): Bumgarner’s .269 batting average against vs. the Braves doesn’t instill a lot of confidence. However, he has only allowed two homers and eight runs in 93 at bats while striking out 14. Those are rather pedestrian numbers, but this is the Braves we are talking about. They have only 17 hits in the last six games.

Dark Horse:

Dallas Keuchel ($7,100): Keuchel was very good in his last start, allowing just two solo homers in the first inning before shutting down the Angels for the next six frames. The Diamondbacks are also hitting a pathetic .136 against Keuchel in 59 at bats with just one solo homer (by Peter O’Brien) and 17 strikeouts. Don’t be surprised if Keuchel outscores everyone this afternoon.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about ā€œstackingā€ pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Adrian Gonzalez ($3,800) and Justin Turner ($3,100) are the two that have homered off of Kyle Hendricks. They have also driven in all of the Dodgers’ runs off of him. And they are a combined 3-7. Both make for solid afternoon plays today.

Jeff Francouer ($2,100) is 2-6 with a homer and four driven in off of Madison Bumgarner. Freddie Freeman ($2,300) is only 5-22(.227), but he has a walk, a double, a homer, and three RBI.

Jose Altuve ($4,300) is cheaper than usual, and is 8-15(.533) with a double, a triple, a homer, and four RBI against Zack Greinke. Luis Valbuena ($3,300) is 10-23(.435) with a walk, three doubles, a homer, and two driven in. Carlos Gomez is just 3-20 lifetime against Greinke, but he does have a homer and four RBI off of him.
