After Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, Logan Couture hinted that the reason that Sidney Crosby is so good at winning face-offs is because he cheats.

The San Jose Sharks lost Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final to the Pittsburgh Penguins after Penguins captain Sidney Crosby won a faceoff in overtime that Kris Letang was able to coral and send to Conor Sheary, who scored the game-winning goal.

After the game, Sharks center Logan Couture was frustrated about Crosby’s ability to win face-offs and not so subtly accused the star center of cheating to win faceoffs cleanly.

Accusing Crosby of cheating is a pretty serious accusation. While stars will always get preferential treatment and be allowed to get away with more than other players (see: Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, Shaquille O’Neal, LeBron James), suggesting that Crosby is cheating sounds like sour grapes at best.

Couture didn’t go any further to say how Crosby cheats. It sounds like he was just upset that he lost a key faceoff to Crosby that wound up determining the game.

Couture isn’t doing himself any favors by whining about how Crosby allegedly cheats. First of all, even if Crosby does cheat, Couture needs to find a way to be better than him. The Penguins didn’t win because Crosby cheated. They won because they dominated the Sharks for a majority of the game. San Jose was lucky that the game went to overtime to begin with.

Secondly, Couture isn’t helping his reputation of being a whiner. It’s sad because this is how people will most likely remember Couture’s postseason run. Not because of his impressive point totals or because of his dominance. But because of his whining.
