Manchester United has made a record-breaking fee in an attempt to get midfielder Paul Pogba back.

It seems like Jose Mourinho is wasting no time in trying to bolster Manchester United. The Sun has reported that they have offered £60 million to Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, who has been linked with a move away from the club since the start of the season. The Sun has stated that the prospect of making Manchester United great again and Mourinho’s appointment are what appeal to Pogba the most.

Man U’s bid is 300,000 more than what they bid for Angel di Maria, who was the most expensive signing in Premier League at the time. However, he was a disaster under Louis van Gaal, only scoring four goals during his lone season, but his immediate resurgence at Paris Saint-Germain was enough to convince people that van Gaal was at fault for that.

If Manchester United want Pogba, he’ll have to compete with multiple teams’ signatures. Most notably, Manchester City and Barcelona have been rumored to express interest in him, but Pogba has made it clear that he will be leaving Juventus. He feels that he needs a new challenge, having won four straight Serie A titles, and the Premier League would represent the best challenge in that regard.

Pogba will be given a chance to display his talents when he plays for hosts France at Euro 2016, who are considered to be one of the favorites of the tournament.

Pogba has played for Manchester United before, and was infamously let go for nothing after Alex Ferguson accused him of disrespecting the club, Manchester City should be considered the favorites to land the Frenchman’s signature. However, Mourinho has been able to lure past stars back when he re-acquired Nemanja Matic from Benfica.

Even if Manchester United lose out on Pogba, they should still be in the market for a lot of big names during the upcoming transfer window. With some of the best managers in the world all under the Premier League umbrella next season, look for next summer’s window to resemble that of an arms race.
