Meet the Pokemon Sun and Moon legendaries

Want to be the very best in Pokémon Sun and Moon? Then you’ll have to catch one of these legendaries.

Let’s just be honest with each other, shall we? Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are going to sell like hotcakes, and not only because of kids begging their parents to buy the latest game. For those of you still not swayed to buy the games, Nintendo has given us more information on the cover stars of both Sun and Moon.

First, let’s meet Solgaleo, the star of Sun (say that five times fast):

Solgaleo is known as the “Sunne Pokémon.” It’s a powerful Psychic/Steel type, and its Full Metal Body ability is brand-new in the series. It prevents Solgaleo’s stats being lowered by opposing Pokémon’s abilities or moves. Solgaleo also comes with the signature move Sunsteel Strike.

Not going to lie, a giant sun lion is pretty cool, but let’s not make snap judgments without looking at the other side of things. That just wouldn’t be fair, would it?

Feast your eyes on Lunala, the star of Pokémon Moon:

Lunala is the “Moone Pokémon.” It, like Solgaleo, has a new, never-before-seen Ability, Shadow Shield. Shadow Shield lowers the damage taken from attacks while the Pokémon has full HP. Its signature move is Moongeist Beam. Also, a Psychic/Ghost type is pretty cool.

In fact, Lunala looks cooler than Solgaleo, in my humble opinion. Lions? Meh. Giant dark shadow bats that look like they have giant blades on their wings? Yeah, that’s what I expect in terms of weird-yet-awesome Pokémon design.

(Yeah, I’m probably going for Pokémon Moon, because decisions based on the cover Pokémon have never steered me wrong.)

Nintendo also dropped the latest trailer for Sun and Moon to accompany these announcements, with a closer look at the tropical Alola region:

Pokémon Sun and Moon will release on November 18 of this year. Nintendo will show more of the games at E3 during their Treehouse livestreams.
