MLB Rumors: Jose Bautista wants to sign with Red Sox?
Could Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion see the Boston Red Sox as a possible free agency destination this off season?
With both of their premier sluggers set to hit free agency this off season, the Toronto Blue Jays are in a tough place. That being said, this scenario would be an absolute nightmare for the team.
In his debut Inside Baseball notes for FanRag sports, MLB insider Jon Heyman mentions the nightmare scenario for the Blue Jays.
"“Both Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion envision the Red Sox as a possible winter landing spot, provided David Ortiz really does go through with his plan to retire,” Heyman reported."
While they have started to get back on track recently, the Blue Jays have under-achieved this season. That being said, the pressure is on to compete because if they do not make it happen this season, it is going to be incredibly difficult to bring back both Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion in free agency.

If the Blue Jays lose that kind of pop in the middle of their order, they are going to be in trouble. However, both Bautista and Encarnacion heading to their division-rival Boston Red Sox would kill the Blue Jays’ chances.
Could you even imagine Bautista and Encarnacion’s incredible power in the middle of the Red Sox’ already loaded offense? Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts and company are already leading all of baseball this season in runs scored.
Their offense is on a torrid pace and the young group is only going to get better. Replacing David Ortiz with both of the Blue Jays’ powerful sluggers would be almost unfair.
