Copa America: Full schedules for Group A

The United States has their hands full in the Copa America’s Group A, boasting formidable challengers in Colombia and Costa Rica. Can the U.S. make it out?

The United States are the host country for the first time in the Copa America’s history, but they weren’t gifted with an easy group. Group A has one of the tournament favorites in Colombia, led by the international superstars like James Rodriguez and Juan Cuadrado. Although they haven’t played particularly well since their 5th place finish at the 2014 World Cup, you can never count out a team that has this much quality and talent on the ball.

Costa Rica, too, has been an impressive squad as of late, winning their group in the 2014 World Cup. Surely, their confidence is as high as any in the tournament, and they’ll be looking to exceed that performance here.

The United States has an interesting mix of veteran leadership (Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey) and highly promising youth (Bobby Wood, Christian Pulisic), and Coach Jurgen Klinsmann needs to press all the right buttons to get his team through the group stages. If he does, the U.S. should be able to surprise a lot of people.

At the bottom of the group sits Paraguay, although that’s selling the country short. They made it to last year’s Copa America semi-finals, losing to Argentina, and are more than experienced and able at these kinds of tournaments.

Group A should be one of the more exciting, hard-to-predict groups in the Copa America, with the United States hoping a strong home country support helps push them through.
