Copa America: Full schedules for Group C
By Mac Gushanas
Will Mexico, sure to be supported by a raucous home crowd, or Uruguay with its two-headed monster of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani lead Group C?
If there’s one sure thing about the Group C at this year’s Copa America, it’s that there will be a ton of goals scored. Uruguay, one of the favorites for the whole tournament, is bolstered by Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani at the front; Suarez, in particular, can stake claim as the best goalscorer in the world after a mind-blowing season for FC Barcelona. With such a potent offensive attack, Uruguay will be tough to stop for even Argentina or Chile, let alone the other three in Group C.
Mexico represents the most likely challenger to Uruguay, in part due to their expected home crowd advantage. With matches in Glendale, AZ, Pasadena, CA and Houston, TX, Mexico should have support that rivals that of the home country, the United States. Prolific goalscorer Chicharito leading the way helps too.
The other two countries comprising Group C are Jamaica and Venezuela, with each having a chance at causing a little chaos in the group stage. While nobody is expecting too much from Venezuela, Jamaica actually reached the finals of last year’s Gold Cup before losing to Mexico. Certainly, Jamaica could catch fire like that again and find themselves moving deeper into the tournament.
Even with all that said, Uruguay and Mexico boast incredible offensives and world-class talent and should be moving past the group stages.
