According to Cristiano Ronaldo, he will retire at Real Madrid but not for a long time.

After winning the UEFA Champions League less than a week ago, Cristiano Ronaldo is enjoying a well-deserved vacation prior to the start of the European Championship. The Portuguese star is letting off some stress in Ibiza, before he joins his national team to prepare for the important summer tournament.

“I’m super happy to have won La Undecima and now I’m thinking about the Euros. We want to give great joy to Portugal by winning it, which is something the Portuguese people deserve,” Ronaldo told Spanish outlet, AS.

Ronaldo went on to tell the Spanish source that he does not plan on ending his career anytime soon though.

“I’m going to retire at Real Madrid at 40-something. I’m very happy here, I’ve worked hard to be where I am”.

The news will come as a massive disappointment for many soccer fans across North America, as there had been a plethora of speculation that Ronaldo would come to ply his trade in Major League Soccer following the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Considering Ronaldo is just 31-years-old, supporters of his will be delighted that he plans on playing for another decade. He has already achieved nearly everything there is to win from a club and individual standpoint, but he will still be hoping to win silverware with Portugal.

The Portuguese have never lifted a significant trophy, and there is nothing that Ronaldo would love more than to lead his country to their first major triumph. Portugal opens up Euro 2016 against Iceland on June 14th at 3 p.m. ET.
