Who are some of the past hosts of the Copa America?

Over the years, the Copa America has grown from a small tournament between four South American powerhouses in Uruguay, Chile, Brazil, and Argentina, to the best continental football tournament outside of the Euros.

What really makes the Copa America each year is the fans. It’s always special to see the host team play, but every country is within close proximity of each other, and every country’s set of fans travel well for each game. It’s because of the South Americans’ passion for the game that the host team has won the Copa America at an incredible rate of 21 out of 44.

With the Copa America being held in the United States, this presents a great opportunity to showcase how much the game has grown, and to really impress the South American fans who usually have football running through their blood. Even if the States don’t get out of their group – they got one of the toughest draws by getting Colombia and Costa Rica – the American fans are expected to be out in full force for each and every game, and display their love for the game.

Here’s a look at who the United States has had to follow in terms of hosting duties for the Copa America. Every CONMEBOL country has had a chance to host the tournament, but with the field starting out as four teams, some have had more chances than others. To date, Argentina has hosted the tournament the most times at nine, while Uruguay and Chile aren’t far behind with seven.
