UNC Wilmington Seahawks vs. Duke Blue Devils

Had the UNC Wilmington Seahawks been able to win the CAA Tournament as the No. 1 seed in the tournament, they may have been a regional host in the 2016 NCAA Baseball Tournament. Instead, they choked it away in the finals and are now the No. 2 seed in the Columbia Regional bracket. That means their NCAA Baseball Tournament will begin on Friday afternoon at Carolina Stadium as they take on the Duke Blue Devils.

Despite the difference in the name recognition between these two teams and in the size of the conferences that they come out of, make no mistake that UNC Wilmington is the superior team in this matchup against Duke. The Seahawks have shown all season that they have some of the biggest bats in the country in their lineup and they’ll be looking to see those bats come to life and for their pitching to hold up in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. Meanwhile, Duke will look to outlast anything that the Seahawks throw at them, both literally and figuratively, on the diamond come Friday.
