Duke and South Carolina will meet in an elimination game in the NCAA Baseball Tournament on Saturday.

It’s safe to say that as the host and top seed in the Columbia Regional of the 2016 NCAA Baseball Tournament, things have not gone according to plan for the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Despite going up 4-0 after just three innings on Friday against Rhode Island, South Carolina gave up five runs between the fourth and fifth, which proved to be enough for the fourth-seeded Rams to eke out an upset. Now USC faces the bitter prospect of being bounced from its own regional in just two games.

One consolation is that the hosts will face a Duke Blue Devils squad that got pummeled in its opener. Duke starter Brian McAfee was shelled to the tune of eight runs in just two innings, and UNC Wilmington added three more to cruise to an 11-1 win on Friday night.

Can Duke bounce back and give South Carolina a scare? Or will the Gamecocks take out their frustrations and make it two straight dismal outings for Blue Devils hurlers? The loser will be done, while the winner will get a possible redemption opportunity on Sunday depending on who loses the Rhode Island-UNC Wilmington game.
