Sharks coach Peter DeBoer got a Koran from Muhammad Ali at prom
Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer got an autographed copy of the Koran from Muhammad Ali at his senior prom.
The recently deceased Muhammad Ali touched a lot of people in his life. He was more than an incredible boxer – he was an incredible human being.
One of the people who Ali touched during his life was San Jose Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer. DeBoer met him at his senior prom and shared his story of meeting Ali with the media.
Ali took time out of his night to hang out and talk with DeBoer and his friends. That’s a testament to the kind of guy that Ali was. Ali was truly one of the most unselfish and caring people ever. So often, he cared about others far more than he cared about himself. It’s also pretty awesome that DeBoer and his friends spent part of their senior prom talking to the legend himself.
DeBoer’s meeting with Ali summarizes why Ali is universally respected by everyone. Ali was always interested in talking to others. Even as a devout Muslim, he never had any intent to convert anybody or cram his religion down anyone’s throat. Ali was a legitimately great person and he’ll be missed.
The Sharks will square off against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 3 in San Jose on Saturday as they try to rally from a 2-0 deficit in the Stanley Cup Final. DeBoer isn’t usually a very talkative guy, so it’s telling that he spoke so highly of Ali.
