With Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie reportedly on the trading block, here are five NHL teams that should be aggressive in pursuing him.

The Colorado Avalanche are reportedly weighing their options and considering trading restricted free agent defenseman Tyson Barrie if Barrie wants more than the Avalanche are willing to pay. Colorado is already paying Erik Johnson and Francois Beauchemin a ton of money, and they also have to extend center Nathan MacKinnon (also a restricted free agent). They might not be able to keep Barrie long term. If that is the case, they must at least consider trading him.

Should Barrie hit the trading block, there will be a number of teams interested in trading for him. While he might cost a lot of money to extend, he is one of the best defensemen in the NHL. Barrie is a very gifted point producer who can drive the puck. His defense, while not elite, is still good. Barrie is only 25 years old, meaning that he still has plenty of good years left in him.

It will take an impressive package to persuade Colorado to trade Barrie. Who knows what the Avalanche will target for him? Do they want another defenseman? A forward? That will determine whether or not Barrie is traded. Here are five teams that should be sprinting to their phones to call Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic about trading for Tyson Barrie.
