5. Boston Bruins

One team that desperately needs to fix their blue line this off-season and should be aggressive in doing so is the Boston Bruins. The Bruins have a porous at best blue line. Torey Krug is a great defenseman, but Zdeno Chara is finally showing his age. Kevan Miller, Adam McQuaid, and Dennis Seidenberg are third pairing defensemen at best. Colorado is a team that might value what McQuaid brings to the table, and Boston should be more than happy to shed McQuaid’s contract.

Of course, they’d need to include more. While it can be assumed that Ryan Spooner and David Pastrnak are untouchable along with AHL phenom Frank Vetrano, someone like 2015 first round pick Zachary Senyshyn or fellow 2015 first round pick Jake DeBrusk could make sense. A low first round pick might have to be added as well, especially if an extension is a part of the agreement.

Conveniently, the Bruins own two first round picks. They own their own, and they also have the San Jose Sharks’ first round pick that they received in the Martin Jones trade. If the Bruins want to trade that second first round pick to acquire a defenseman, Tyson Barrie would be a fantastic guy for them to target.
