Copa America 2016: Updated group standings
By Phil Naegely
Find out where your favorite team sits after each Copa America Centenario team has completed one match each.
Through the first round of group stage matches, the Copa America Centenario has been filled with some surprises. Some teams are in better shape than many experts expected, while other national team sides disappointed in their opening Copa America match.
A few teams face do-or-die situations as they prepare for their second group stage match. Other teams have the opportunity to clinch a spot in the knockout round with a second straight victory this week.
The second round of group stage matches will take place from Tuesday, June 7 through Friday, June 10. It’s less rest between matches than the players are used to especially during their respective domestic league matches. Coaches will need to make some tactical decisions when it comes to using their depth and utilizing the bench when deciding who should be in their respective team’s starting XI.
In a rematch of the 2015 Copa America final, Argentina defeated Chile despite a second half goal in stoppage time by Chile. Panama won 2-1 with FC Dallas’ Blas Perez scoring both goals for the national team side.
