Tiger woods released a statement on his website saying that he won’t take part in this year’s U.S. Open and won’t play in the Quicken Loan National.
For years now, fans of golf have been wondering when (and of late, if) Tiger Woods will get back to his days of dominating the sport and bringing home major championships. We now know that any hopes of him extending his number of major titles will not take place this summer at the U.S. Open.
On his website, Woods announced that he was sitting out the 2016 edition of golf’s national title in America as well as his own tournament that he runs, the Quicken Loans National near Washington D.C.:
"“While I continue to work hard on getting healthy, I am not physically ready to play in this year’s U.S. Open and the Quicken Loans National. I am making progress, but I’m not yet ready for tournament competition.“I will be hosting and attending my foundation’s tournament, the Quicken Loans National, at Congressional. It’s the 10th year of our tournament, and we continue to support the community, the military and the programs of the Tiger Woods Foundation.”"
The 40-year-old Woods hasn’t won a major title since bringing home the U.S. Open crown in 2008. While Tiger Woods does have 14 major championships under his belt, Woods has only made the cut at two of the last six he has played.
The 2016 U.S. Open will take place at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania this year, where it hasn’t been played since 2007 when Angel Cabrera won by one stroke over both Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk.
