The NBA Draft is just a few weeks away and the Lakers still haven’t scheduled a workout with Ben Simmons.

The Los Angeles Lakers have the second overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. What they will do with the pick largely depends on what the Philadelphia 76ers do with the first overall pick. They will most likely draft Brandon Ingram. However, it’s surprising that the Lakers haven’t even scheduled a workout with potential top draft pick Ben Simmons.

Simmons isn’t the consensus number one pick, so this is a bit interesting. Maybe the Lakers are that confident that the 76ers are going to draft Simmons. Perhaps the Lakers really like Ingram, but if that is the case, why not at least work out Simmons just in case the 76ers throw a curveball by drafting Ingram?

This could mean that the Lakers are seriously considering trading the number two pick if they can’t get Ingram. Who would be interested in Simmons? A lot of teams, probably. Ironically, the 76ers are a team that could be interested in trading for the pick. They have the capital necessary to acquire him, including several high draft picks. Would the Lakers move the second overall pick for Jahlil Okafor and a high draft pick?

It is interesting that the Lakers haven’t schedule a workout for a guy who might fall to them in the draft. They could always schedule him for a last minute workout, but it’s safe to say that the Lakers are either very confident that they’re getting Ingram or they want to trade the pick.
