Bobby Flay buys into Belmont Stakes hopeful Creator
Has Bobby Flay discovered a recipe to win the Belmont Stakes via buying an ownerhip position in Creator?
Going forward, celebrity chef and race horse owner Bobby Flay is partners with WinStar Farm, Lexington, KY, in the Belmont Stakes-bound Tapit colt Creator. In a statement announcing the partnership, Flay said:
"“I’m thrilled to partner with WinStar Farm on Belmont Stakes contender Creator. Not only is he a talented racehorse with tremendous potential, Creator is already a Grade 1-winning colt ($768,320 earnings) by Tapit, which makes him an exciting stallion prospect. It’s a rare opportunity to partner with a first-class racing and stallion operation like WinStar, and I want to thank Kenny and Lisa Troutt and Elliott Walden. I look forward to many thrilling moments at the races with Creator, and then down the line with Creator’s progeny.”"
Following a win in the $1 million Arkansas Derby, Creator ‘s trip in the Kentucky Derby was hindered by traffic problems with the 20-horse field. After the Derby, trainer Steve Asmussen and WinStar elected to focus Creator on the Belmont Stakes. In a prep work, New York-based jockey Irad Ortiz piloted Creator in a half-mile breeze clocked in at 50 3/5 seconds. Ortiz will ride Creator in the Belmont.
