J.R. Smith almost knocks down halfcourt shot in Game 3 (Video)

J.R. Smith was so close to giving everyone a moment everyone wanted to see, hitting a halfcourt shot just after the buzzer

J.R. Smith has reached a status of being somewhat of a cult hero among NBA fans. Whether its his willingness to never stop shooting or getting buckets, his overall general demeanor, or even his made-public exploits in Twitter DMs, J.R. Smith is almost an urban legend at this point. Which is why everyone was hoping he’s have a great moment at the end of the first half in Game 3 of the 2016 NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

After a fantastic first half from the Cavaliers, they got one last possession to get up a heave. J.R. Smith took it upon himself to try and make something happen with that possession.

The Cavs guard took it up the floor, dribbled around several defenders, and then hoisted up a shot from mid-court. As he does, J.R. got buckets—or he was close at least:

In actuality, J.R. Smith’s shot was taken just a tad after the buzzer to go into halftime, thus making it not count.

However, the Cavaliers still took an eight-point lead into halftime, which is saying a lot considering how Games 1 and 2 went down. Now let’s hope more moments from J.R. are in order as the Finals continue on.
