Laremy Tunsil is impressing the Miami Dolphins during OTAs

After a video depicting Laremy Tunsil smoking marijuana from a gas mask bong appeared on his personal Twitter account, the former University of Mississippi star slipped several spots in the NFL Draft, eventually falling to the Miami Dolphins at 13th overall. Prior to the unfortunate events on draft day, Tunsil was projected by many draft experts, including Mel Kiper and Todd McShay, as the best left tackle and some even tabbed him as the best available player in the class of 2016.

Finishing 26th in the NFL in sacks allowed last season, the Dolphins could not resist taking a risk on Tunsil in an effort to better protect their franchise quarterback, Ryan Tannehill. With established starters at both tackle spots, the ‘Phins drafted Tunsil with hopes of moving him to guard despite never once playing the position.

One month removed from living a nationally broadcast nightmare, Tunsil is changing the narrative with his performance on the field during OTAs.

New teammate and fellow guard, Jamil Douglas, told the Miami Herald, “I knew he was athletic, but I think the guy is…it’s crazy how athletic he is. If you watch him play, how natural his movements are. He’s just an athletic guy, smart guy.”

Gleaming over his new toy, offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen added, “He’s been very, very, very impressive. He’s every bit what we thought he was, which has a chance to be exceptional.”

For those of you keeping score at home that is three “very’s” in total, which is only reserved for the truly special talents.

With the players yet to put the pads on and the start of the regular season still months away, it is probably way too early to make an accurate and complete assessment on Tunsil.  However, his size, athleticism, and raw talent have rarely been questioned, rather his off the field decision-making will most likely decide his career trajectory.
