Los Angeles Rams expected to sign first overall pick Jared Goff today
The Los Angeles Rams are expected to sign first overall pick Jared Goff to a contract on Thursday.
After trading away a massive haul to come up and land him with the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams are reportedly close to signing his rookie contract.
The Rams have struggled to establish a legitimate starter at the quarterback position for many years. With the move to Los Angeles official, they did not hold back in making sure they were able to go up and get their guy in Goff.
A smart passer with a lightning-quick release and pin-point accuracy, Goff has a lot of upside as a starting NFL quarterback. While he will certainly have some struggles along the way as he acclimates to the NFL game, Goff is likely to come in and be the Rams’ starter right away.

Case Keenum can hold the fort down if Goff does not appear ready to go to start the season, but the Rams did not spend that much to go up and get him to sit on the bench. While Goff does not have an ideal corps of receivers to work with, having reigning NFL Rookie of the Year Todd Gurley behind him at the running back position will certainly help his transition to the pros.
The Rams are likely to feature Gurley prominently in their offense, and he will undoubtedly take a lot of pressure off of Goff. As the team’s starting quarterback, there will be pressure for Goff to perform, but having Gurley to hand the ball off to will certainly help.

The Rams and Goff coming to a quick contract agreement is an important step to him having success as a rookie. It will be interesting to watch and see if the Rams finally found their franchise signal caller both in 2016 and beyond.
