One ESPN the Magazine cover idea to honor Muhammad Ali didn’t make the cut, but it was a favorite on social media.

With Ali having such an impact that transcended boxing and civil rights, it was only fitting that he was on just about every magazine cover this week. One of those magazines of course was ESPN the Magazine, which payed tribute to Ali was well.
When it comes to selecting a cover to honor a legend, the choice isn’t easy and the magazine certainly had plenty of options to choose from. One particular choice didn’t make it, but creative director Chin Wang was kind enough to share it. The cover is a boxing ring with a butterfly floating above with the shadow of a bee getting ready to sting in the shadows.
Even though this cover wasn’t ultimately the one that was chosen for print, we should all be thankful that it has seen the light of day.
What would be cool is if some of the other potential designs were released as well.
