5. His Fourth and Final Stanley Cup

During his glorious career, Gordie Howe won four Stanley Cups. Each of them were won with the Detroit Red Wings during a six season span. While Howe didn’t play an instrumental role in his first Stanley Cup, he played a huge role in each of his next three. However, his last one, won in the 1954-1955 season, is his most special because he averaged nearly two points a game while doing so.

In context, Howe only played in 11 games in the playoffs during the 1954-55 season. However, Howe managed to have nine goals, 11 assists, and 20 points. The Conn Smythe Trophy for the NHL’s Stanley Cup playoff MVP did not exist back in 1955. If it did, Howe surely would have won it because of how great he was in the playoffs. He led all postseason players in goals and points during that year’s playoffs.

Howe had an impact in more ways than one during the postseason. Not only was he a clutch player and scorer, he would also set the tone with his physicality and aggression. The NHL was very physical back in the 1950’s. Scoring was hard to come by. It’s a true testament to Howe’s greatness that he was able to put up such great stats. During the 1954-55 postseason, Howe also had 24 penalty minutes.
