In order to shake things up, the Chicago White Sox have called up top prospect Tim Anderson.

The Chicago White Sox continue to slide, and general manager Rick Hahn is not wasting any time making the necessary moves to save their season. First reported by Dave Williams of Barstool Sports, and later confirmed by others, White Sox top prospect Tim Anderson is on his way to the big leagues.

The 23-year-old Anderson is getting called up after hitting .304/.325/.409 at Triple-A. Anderson is fully expected to come in and be the White Sox’ everyday player at shortstop.

While the corresponding move has yet to be announced, it is fully expected that the White Sox will DFA veteran shortstop Jimmy Rollins, who was hitting an ugly .221/.295/.329 on the season.

Anderson is considered to be far and away the top prospect in the White Sox’ system, and as ranked as the 19th best prospect in all of baseball by Baseball Prospectus prior to the 2016 season.

Anderson has only improved his status as a talented young player by performing well at Triple-A. He is undoubtedly going to provide a much-needed spark to the White Sox’ line-up.

The White Sox have really stumbled in recent weeks, after starting out the 2016 on fire and leading the American League Central. The White Sox currently sit at 30-30 on the season, and in fourth place in the AL Central.

More from Chicago White Sox

While their only trail the division-leading Cleveland Indians by 3.5 games, the White Sox need to turn their season around quickly, and their front office knows it.

Hahn and the White Sox front office have been incredibly busy recently, trading for pitcher James Shields, cutting ties with pitcher Mat Latos on Thursday and now calling up their top prospect on Friday. Clearly, the White Sox see this as an important stretch of their season.

If they continue to lose, they are going to quickly fall out of the race. However, being only 3.5 games out is an easy gap to close if a team is playing well.

It is going to be extremely interesting to see how Anderson plays at the next level. He has elite-level skills in all facets of the game, showing ridiculous athleticism on the diamond. That being said, Anderson is an extremely raw player who I would not be surprised to see struggle right away against big league pitching.

The White Sox need Anderson to come in and provide a spark. Will he be able to do so? Only time will tell.
