Philadelphia Eagles second-year wide receiver Nelson Agholor is being investigated on an accusation of sexual assault by the Philadelphia police department.
According to David Gambacorta of Philadelphia Magazine, Philadelphia Eagles second-year wide receiver Nelson Agholor is being investigated by the Philadelphia police department for an accusation of sexual assault stemming from an event at a local gentleman’s club.
Philadelphia police commissioner Richard Ross confirmed the investigation (from Gambacorta’s report), “There was an allegation made against one of the [Eagles] players of sexual assault that was reported by one of the female dancers” at Cheerleaders Gentleman’s Club on Thursday afternoon.
Agholor was in the club with at least two other Eagles players on Thursday afternoon shortly after the Eagles had wrapped up organized team activities. On Friday, the Eagles organization released a statement on the incident, “We are aware of the police investigation involving Nelson Agholor. The organization has been in contact with Nelson and with the proper authorities in Philadelphia. Because of the legal nature of this matter, we will have no further comment.”
In the 2015 NFL Draft, former Eagles head coach Chip Kelly reached for Agholor with the No. 20 overall selection, despite having a second-round grade coming out of USC. Perhaps Kelly saw a strong scheme fit in Agholor or just really preferred to draft Pac-12 guys stemming from his team coaching the Oregon Ducks.
As a rookie in 2015, Agholor largely underwhelmed in what was a down year for the Eagles. He had 23 catches on 44 targets for 283 receiving yards, one touchdown, and a fumble. Agholor played in 13 games for the Eagles last season and started in 12 of them in Kelly’s high-octane offense.
The Eagles will probably be strong defensively under new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, but serious questions remain about how Philadelphia will perform on the offensive side of the ball under first-year head coach Doug Pederson.
