Radamel Falcao will return to Monaco next season after two disastrous loan spells in the Premier League.
When Manchester United captured Radamel Falcao on the final day of the transfer window in 2014-15, people thought they were getting a world-class player who was motivated to have a great season after an injury-plagued campaign with Monaco. Oh, how times have changed.

Two loan spells in the Premier League, one with Manchester United and one with Chelsea, have dramatically dipped Falcao’s stock. He scored five goals in 41 games and he became the butt-end of many peoples’ jokes. Granted, there were hardly any Chelsea players that enjoyed themselves, but Falcao’s struggles were a microcosm of their frustrating season.
It’s easy to think that they key to Falcao rediscovering his form is a change of scenery, which is why he’s confirming a return to AS Monaco in an Instagram post:
Monaco captured Falcao, among others, prior to the 2013-14 season to assert themselves as top dogs of Ligue 1 and try to threaten Paris Saint-Germain’s position at the top. That didn’t work out for Monaco or Falcao, as they finished second that year while Falcao got injured half-way through the season which forced him to miss the World Cup that year.
Prior to getting injured, Falcao put up 11 goals in 19 games. His time in Atletico Madrid was the last time he put up world-class numbers, but with Antoine Griezmann and Fernando Torres currently in their ranks, they don’t have much space to make for Falcao.
It’ll be interesting to see if this move is enough to make Falcao the player that he used to be.
