The Oklahoma Sooners are playoff contenders in 2016 because of their offense. Here are five reasons running back Samaje Perine can win the 2016 Heisman.

The Oklahoma Sooners have very high expectations entering the 2016 NCAA season. Oklahoma won the Big 12 and represented the Power 5 conference in the second annual College Football Playoff, losing to the Clemson Tigers in the National Semifinals in the Orange Bowl.

While Oklahoma came up two games short of winning another National Championship for this Big 12 blue-blood program, one could argue that the Sooners could have an easier time at winning it all in 2016. The Sooners return much of the offense that helped get them to the College Football Playoff last season.

One player in particular that could play a huge part in the Sooners’ success on the gridiron in 2016 is junior running back Samaje Perine. Perine in his first two years in Norman has rushed for a combined 3,062 yards and 37 touchdowns on 489 carries. He’s quietly been forcing his way into the conversation as one of the best Sooner tailbacks of the last decade plus along with Adrian Peterson and DeMarco Murray.

While Perine is somewhat of a dark horse contender in the Oklahoma backfield, here are five reasons the junior tailback can do something neither Peterson or Murray were able to during their time in Norman by winning the 2016 Heisman Trophy.
