Belmont Stakes 2016: Creator wins Belmont Stakes
Creator showed off tremendous endurance and won the 2016 Belmont Stakes by a nose.
A race that is unlike any other, the Belmont Stakes really tests the mettle of horses as they race around the mile-and-a-half track. The 2016 Belmont Stakes proved to be no different this year.
On Saturday, Exaggerator came into the race as the big favorite after winning the 2016 Preakness Stakes. Although a Triple Crown wasn’t on the line at the Belmont Stakes, everyone wanted to see if Exaggerator could work his magic on the long track yet again.
The race came under sunny skies with scattered clouds and the track was running fast as the horses left the gate to begin the race.
Destin got off to a great start as did Gettysburg. Exaggerator would start the race in the middle and find his cruising speed. Seeking The Soul would start on the rail and work his way up to the front.
Exaggerator began making his move up the back stretch. The pack would stay tight together as Trojan Nation trailed well behind. Gettysburg still held serve up front into the stretch. Unfortunately for Exaggerator, he did not have the speed down the stretch that he needed to win.
Destin would take the lead down the stretch and Creator would match him, as they two finished neck-and-neck at the finish and it was too close to call. After review it appeared that Creator would win by a nose over Destin and take home the 2016 Belmont Stakes.
It would be one of the most exciting finishes in the history of horse racing.
