Belmont Stakes 2016: Horses list
Looking at the 13 horses that will be racing in the 148th Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 11
The run of Triple Crown races in the horse racing world have almost come to a close. Nyquist was the winner of the Kentucky Derby and many people thought that it could be back-to-back Triple Crown winners after American Pharoah last year. However, Exaggerator ruined that when he won the Preakness Stakes. That leaves us at Saturday, June 11 and the 2016 Belmont Stakes.
Sadly, Nyquist has been ill and won’t be able to run the 148th running of the Belmont Stakes, thus eliminating the chance for a grudge match between Nyquist and Exaggerator. Even still, there are some fast horses in the field that could have a great run on Saturday evening at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY.
Here’s a look at the 13 horses that will be running at the 2016 Belmont Stakes (note: odds are the opening lines for each horse):
Post | Horse | Odds |
1 | Governor Malibu | 12-1 |
2 | Destin | 6-1 |
3 | Cherry Wine | 8-1 |
4 | Suddenbreakingnews | 10-1 |
5 | Stradivari | 5-1 |
6 | Gettysburg | 30-1 |
7 | Seeking the Soul | 30-1 |
8 | Forever d’Oro | 30-1 |
9 | Trojan Nation | 30-1 |
10 | Lani | 20-1 |
11 | Exaggerator | 9-5 |
12 | Brody’s Cause | 20-1 |
13 | Creator | 10-1 |
You’d obviously have to say that Exaggerator is the clear favorite just by looking at the opening odds and then considering that its the only horse in the field to have notched a win in a Triple Crown race this year. That being said, anything can happen at the lengthy Belmont Stakes and horse racing fans should keep their eyes peeled for a wild one.
