There have been many great horses over the years in the world of horse racing, but most fans will tell you that arguably the hardest race of every year is the third leg of the Triple Crown in the Belmont Stakes. On Saturday, June 11, the 148th running of the Belmont Stakes will take place.
Coming into the race, Exaggerator is the heavy favorite to win after winning the Preakness Stakes and then having Nyquist (the Kentucky Derby winner) out with an illness. Exaggerator has a lot to live up to after last year’s race when American Pharoah won to secure the Triple Crown in historic fashion.
American Pharoah put its name down in history with the win at the Belmont Stakes, as many have before as well. There have been 147 previous winners, all special in their own right, that Exaggerator and the 2016 field would love to join.
