Looking at how to make the best Belmont Breeze for your Belmont Stakes parties to stick with tradition

When it comes to the world of horse racing, it’s a sport that’s absolute entrenched in traditions. One of the best traditions of the bunch, though, is the signature drink of each of the three Triple Crown races. The Kentucky Derby has the Mint Julep, the Preakness Stakes have the Black Eyed Susan, and the Belmont Stakes—which takes place on Saturday, June 11, has the Belmont Breeze.

Well, sort of.

The Belmont Breeze has traditionally been the signature drink of the Belmont Stakes, but that was changed just a couple of years ago when they made the official switch and created the Belmont Jewel.

Luckily for you if you’re having a Belmont party, we’re going to cover all of the bases of how to make the drinks that you’ll need.

If you’re sticking to tradition and going with Belmont Breeze, it’s quite a simple recipe. You’ll need 1.5 ounces of bourbon, two ounces of lemonade, and an ounce of pomegranate juice. You’ll combine all of the ingredients in a mixer with ice and shake hard before serving over ice in a rocks glass. Garnishing with a lemon or cherry isn’t required, but it makes it look and taste a little better.

For the Belmont Jewel for those not wanting to stay in the past with the Belmont Breeze, you’ll need most of the same ingredients. It’s 1.5 ounces of bourbon, two of lemonade, and one of pomegranate again. However, the difference is the orange zest that you want to throw into the drink to add even more citrus to the beverage and change it up. Prepare the same way as the Belmont Jewel, but garnish with an orange to switch it up.

Those are all the drinks you’ll need for your Belmont parties! Enjoy!
