The Philadelphia Eagles have been working hard to fix their team ever since they let Chip Kelly go . They drafted what they hope is their franchise quarterback in the draft in Carson Wentz. They also hired a new head coach as well in Doug Pederson.
Now, it appears that the Eagles are taking care of their own start talent instead of trading them away for middling talent, draft picks and players from the University of Oregon. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles and defensive lineman Fletcher Cox have agreed to a six-year/$103 million deal with $63 million guaranteed.
As Schefter notes it’s the largest non-quarterback deal in the history of the NFL.
In what was a down year for the Eagles, Cox was once again the bright spot for the team and earned second-team All-Pro honors for his outstanding work on the field. He has quickly become one of the most dominant defensive lineman in the game and locking him up is a good start for the Eagles.
As for the money in that deal, Cox did a great job of making sure he got paid. It will be interesting to see the breakdown of the money, but the guarantees in that deal are record breaking.
