While Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips was happy to get his Super Bowl 50 Championship ring, he points out that his ring was misspelled.

The 2015 Denver Broncos were able to win the franchise’s third Lombardi Trophy after defeating the NFC Champion Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 due in large part to their historically strong defense.

While star defensive players like Von Miller, DeMarcus Ware, Aqib Tailb, Chris Harris, Malik Jackson, and Danny Trevathan became household names for their great play on the 2015 Broncos, it was the brilliant scheme of new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips that got the most out of the dominant Broncos defensive unit.

So in essence, Phillips was a major reason behind the Broncos’ improbable Super Bowl victory, as head coach Gary Kubiak’s ultra-conservative offense did little to move the chains with a decaying Peyton Manning at quarterback.

While everybody in the Broncos organization knew how important Phillips’ arrival was to Denver’s overall success in 2015, it seems that ring manufacturer Jostens didn’t do their job of spelling Phillips’ last name correctly on his Super Bowl 50 Championship ring.

Forgetting that extra ‘L’ is commonplace in spelling Phillips’ last name, but he’s an iconic NFL defensive mind that brought out the best in one of the NFL’s greatest defensive groupings in the 2015 Broncos.

Phillips did point out that Jostens will appropriately replace his Super Bowl 50 ring with one that is spelled correctly.

While it seems to happen more often that it should in misspelling the names of champions in the engraving process, it’s not like Phillips was just another guy in the Broncos organization: he was the outstanding defensive coordinator of a historic defense!
