David West opted out of the second year of his deal with the San Antonio Spurs to become a free agent. Here are five landing spots for West this summer.

On Monday, 13-year NBA veteran power forward David West opted out of the final year of his two-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs to become an unrestricted free agent. While the two-time NBA All-Star could decide to call it a career (he’ll be 36 during the 2016-17 NBA season), he could very well sign with a new team instead of San Antonio on his quest for that elusive NBA Championship.

West starred in college for the Xavier Musketeers before spending eight seasons with the then New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, four the Indiana Pacers, and the 2015-16 NBA season with San Antonio.

He gave up a ton of money and playing time to sign a veteran minimum contract to play with the 2015-16 Spurs in a deep reserve role to contend for an NBA Championship. While San Antonio was a dominant team in the regular season, the Spurs were upset in the Western Conference Semifinals by the Oklahoma City Thunder in six games.

While he could conceivably re-up on a new deal with Spurs to close out his strong NBA career, if West wants to try to win an NBA Championship before his playing days are over, here are the five best places for him to go in 2016 NBA free agency to contend for a title.
