Re-Drafting the 2013 NBA Draft
By Brad Rowland

73.
Original pick: Rudy Gobert (traded to Utah)

We don’t know a lot about Lucas Nogueira right now. That makes things especially tough since, well, we knew just about nothing about him as a draft prospect.

Nogueira emerged from relative obscurity in Brazil, and when the Atlanta Hawks picked him in the draft, it was considered a long-term project. He did not appear in an NBA game until the 2014-2015 season, and even then, it came in very limited duty (23 total minutes) after being traded to the Raptors.

However, the 2015-2016 season was kinder to Nogueira, as he posted an above-average PER (15.6) in 225 minutes. The rangy center was able to flash the length and athleticism that made him a worthwhile project, and Nogueira’s rim protection and mobility defensively are definitely intriguing.

Still, he will turn 24 years old in July, and we are getting fairly late when trying to project something from a virtual unknown. Nogueira’s skill set is appealing in 2016 and beyond because of the position that he plays and the upside he can generate, but it is pure projection right now. Fortunately, this is weak bottom half of the first round and he benefits from that.
. C. Brazil. Lucas Nogueira. 27. player
