WWE will reportedly have two pay-per-view per month starting in September after the brand split

Big changes are quite clearly coming to WWE over the next several months. The first huge instance of that will of course be on July 19 when WWE Smackdown moves to Tuesday for a live broadcast. However, its the brand split, draft, and other repercussions of Smackdown going live that could really shake things up in the company. And according to reports, things could be getting shaken up even more than fans realize.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer on the Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE will start having two pay-per-views per month starting in September—right after SummerSlam—with brand-specific PPVs for RAW and for Smackdown each month. Meltzer noted that this wasn’t set in stone at this point, but said that it’s definitely the plan as of right now.

This is a report that echoes something that longtime WWE personality (and occasional wrestler) Jerry “The King” Lawler said recently about there being two pay-per-views per month except for the “Big Four” of Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series where the RAW and Smackdown brands will combine to comprise the show.

If you’ll remember the first time that WWE tried the brand split, they also had brand-specific PPVs, but alternated months while combining the two brands for big shows. This is a different direction than that failed venture, but it’s also one that seems like a ton of content to expect fans to have to watch every month.

Another interesting note from this would be that it all but confirms that another world title will be coming into the picture soon with the Smackdown brand. With brand-specific PPVs, having two world titles is essentially a necessity.

Plans within WWE are always fluid, but things are starting to take a much clearer shape now. We’ll see how things continue to progress with the draft, brand split, and everything in between.
