Finding a true franchise point guard should be near the top of the Kings’ wish list in the 2016 NBA Draft. Seth Curry and Darren Collison can combine to give the Kings a solid duo at the position if they decide not to bring back Rondo, but that is not really a great move for the team heading forward.

Point guard is so much of a need that they need to reach for the position at number eight, but if the right guy is there, they need to make him a priority. If that player is not available, I think the Kings would be wise to target Yogi Ferrell at some point in the second-round.

Ferrell was an extremely productive player at Indiana University, producing well on the court for all four years that he was in college, capped off by averaging 17.3 points and 5.6 assists per game last year as a senior.

He is an extremely active player who uses his natural speed and athleticism to make plays all over the court. He can create his own shot and while he is a score-first point guard, he can also create for his teammates.

Ferrell is also a solid outside shooter, who hit 40% of his three-point shots throughout his college career while always shooting them at a high clip. Ferrell’s obvious offensive upside reminds me of Isaiah Thomas, who the Kings drafted in the second-round as a four-year college point guard in 2011.

Thomas showed nice upside with the Kings, but never really had a consistent opportunity to produce. However, he is now an All-Star point guard for the Boston Celtics.

A natural athlete who shows great play-making skills on the offensive side of the court, Ferrell could be a real impact player for the Kings at the low-cost of a second-round selection.
