Brandon Marshall agrees to four-year extension with Broncos

The Denver Broncos have agreed to a four-year contract extension with four-year NFL veteran outside linebacker Brandon Marshall.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Denver Broncos have agreed to a four-year contract extension with four-year NFL veteran outside linebacker Brandon Marshall.
The Denver Post’s Troy Renck added the contract details on Marshall’s newest deal to stay in Denver with the Broncos. Marshall will receive $32 million over the four years of the contract, with $20 million of that total guaranteed and will get a $10 million signing bonus in re-upping with the Broncos.
Marshall had spent the last three seasons playing for the Broncos after being a fifth-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2012 NFL Draft out of the University of Nevada at Reno. Marshall is coming off another great season with the Broncos in which Denver won its third-ever Super Bowl.
While Denver did end up losing several key free agents this past free agency period in the form of defensive lineman Malik Jackson, inside linebacker Danny Trevathan, and quarterback Brock Osweiler, it seems that general manager John Elway is deciding to invest in Marshall as a cornerstone for his defense for years to come.
Though Marshall certainly earned his newest contract extension with great play in 2014 and 2015, one has to wonder what the Broncos’ best player in outside linebacker Von Miller is thinking about his teammate’s latest deal.
Miller will probably have to play the 2016 NFL season on a $14 million franchise tag before presumably becoming a free agent in 2017. Miller is set to become the highest paid defensive player in football. However, will that be with the Broncos?
For now, Denver can appreciate that Elway did lock up Marshall on a strong-team friendly contract going forward. Maybe this helps in the Miller negotiations in the coming weeks?
