DraftKings MLB picks for June 14

We get a 14 game slate on Tuesday. Only Philadelphia and Toronto in a daytime interleague tilt are not involved. That leaves us plenty of good choices, but who are the best? Let’s check the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Brandon Finnegan has never faced the Braves, and he has posted a 3.77 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 13 starts. As bad as the Braves’ offense has been at times this year, he is a solid flier against Atlanta.

Jhoulys Chacin has never faced the Twins. However, the Twins beat up Jered Weaver last night. How much do you trust a guy with a 4.83 ERA to keep them down?

Best Bets:

Jacob deGrom ($10,100): The Pirates are only hitting .196 against deGrom in 46 at bats with no homers, five runs, and 12 strikeouts. With Price facing a good Orioles team, and Bumgarner facing a Brewers team that is hitting .281 against him, deGrom looks like a really good option tonight.

Julio Teheran ($9,500): Teheran has a problem picking up wins on a team with an anemic offense, but his own numbers are strong. So are his past numbers against the Reds. The Reds are only hitting .195 off of Teheran in 41 at bats with a homer, four runs, and eight strikeouts. The homer is by Jay Bruce, who is just 2-12 off of Teheran.

Honorable Mention:

Drew Pomeranz ($10,400): Pomeranz has never started against the Marlins before, but they are only 4-18(.222) against him in his relief outings. The bad news, besides it being a small sample size? Pomeranz only has four strikeouts. That said, He has a great chance for a win against Tom Koehler.

Jake Odorizzi ($8,200): Odorizzi has dominated the Mariners so far in his career. Seattle is hitting just .203 against him in 64 at bats with no homers, four RBI, and 15 strikeouts. We all know that Odorizzi can rack up strikeouts, but he has a problem with keeping his pitch count down. This limits his upside, but the past stats are worth noting.

Chris Tillman ($7,400): His numbers against the Red Sox are much better than David Price‘s against Baltimore. Tillman, who has had poor career numbers against most teams before this year’s breakout, bucks the trend here. The Sox are only hitting .234 against Tillman in 154 at bats with two homers, 13 RBI, and 31 strikeouts. Those are good numbers for the price, and he should be able to at worst hold his own against Price.

Dark Horses:

Matt Garza ($5,800): Garza will be making his 2016 debut against Madison Bumgarner. So why use him? Well, there is no mention of a pitch count because he had back issues, not shoulder issues. And he has good career numbers against the Giants. San Francisco is hitting .250 off of Garza in 72 at bats with two homers, eight RBI, and 17 strikeouts. One of those homers and three of the RBI came from the injured Hunter Pence. This is a big risk, but Garza could pitch well for his price.

Nate Eovaldi ($5,600): Yes, the game is at Coors Field, but Eovaldi has great numbers against the current Rockies lineup. They are just 10-52(.192) with zero RBI and 10 strikeouts! Don’t expect the run count to remain at zero, but the strikeouts are encouraging.

Jorge De La Rosa ($5,300): Inexplicably, De La Rosa is an astonishing 50-18 at Coors Field. He is 45-61 everywhere else. He has a 4.24 career ERA at Coors Field. His career mark is 4.65. The Yankees are not the juggernaut offense of yesteryear. Their stars are either aging or hurt. If you are ever going to use De La Rosa, this may be the time. Oh, and the Yankees are hitting just .209 against De La Rosa in 86 at bats with two homers, only four RBI, and an astounding 25 strikeouts, 12 by Chase Headley.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Stacking against Madison Bumgarner, especially from an offense like the Brewers, seems crazy, but the stats back it up. Ryan Braun ($3,600) is 8-26(.308) with three doubles, two homers, and four strikeouts against MadBum. Chris Carter ($3,000) only has five plate appearances, but he has two walks and two RBI. Jonathan Villar ($3,100) is 1-2 with a walk and a solo homer. Scooter Gennett ($2,000) is 1-1 with a solo homer and a walk. Aaron Hill ($2,000) is only 10-40, but he has four walks, three doubles, two homers, and six RBI against Bumgarner.

The Orioles haven’t always hit David Price hard, but they have hit him well (.272 average in 257 at bats). Chris Davis ($4,000) is 7-23(.304) with three walks and three RBI. Manny Machado ($4,100) is 6-22(.273) with two walks, a double, a homer, and two RBI off of Price. Mark Trumbo ($4,500) is 8-22(.364) with two doubles, two homers, and seven RBI. Matt Wieters ($3,000) is 15-47(.319) with three walks, six doubles, a homer, and four RBI off of Price.

Daniel Murphy ($4,100) is 4-9 with a double against John Lackey. Ryan Zimmerman ($3,100) is also 4-9 against Lackey with a double and two RBI. Anthony Rendon ($3,400) is only 1-4, but that hit is a solo homer and he has walked twice. Jayson Werth ($3,300) is 7-17(.412) with a walk, four doubles, a homer, and three RBI against Lackey.

Stacking Cardinals against Doug Fister could be a good idea. The Redbirds have scored 15 runs on him in just 70 at bats! Matt Adams ($3,400) is 2-6 with a double, a homer, and three RBI. Matt Carpenter is only 1-6, but the hit is a solo homer. Matt Holliday‘s only hit in five at bats is a two run shot. Brandon Moss ($4,000) is 4-7 with a double, a homer, and four RBI. Kolten Wong ($3,000) is 4-7 with a double, a triple, a homer, and two RBI against Fister.

The Royals don’t care how good Josh Tomlin has been. They have hit him very well. The Champs are hitting .315 against Tomlin in 203 career at bats. Lorenzo Cain ($3,300) is 6-18 with a walk, two doubles, and two RBI. Jarrod Dyson ($3,300) is 5-14(.357) with two triples and a RBI. Alcides Escobar ($2,300) is 7-30(.233) with three triples and four RBI. Salvador Perez ($3,400) is 13-20 (.650) with six doubles, a homer, and six RBI off Tomlin. Fortunately for Tomlin, Alex Gordon and Mike Moustakas are out. They are a combined 18-57 with four homers and ten RBI.

Miguel Cabrera ($4,100) is 3-10 with a homer and two RBI against Miguel Gonzalez. Jose Iglesias ($2,900) is 5-11 with a double. Ian Kinsler ($5,500) is 5-17(.294) with a walk, a double, a homer, and five RBI. J.D. Martinez ($4,600) is 3-7 with a double and three RBI against Gonzalez.

Dioner Navarro ($2,500) is 1-2 with a walk, a homer, and three RBI against Jordan Zimmerman.

The injured Pablo Sandoval has four of the 13 RBI against Tillman. Dustin Pedroia ($4,000) is 11-41(.268) with three walks, two doubles, and five RBI against Chris Tillman.

Dexter Fowler ($4,400) had a rough night against Max Scherzer last night, but he could rebound against Gio Gonzalez. Fowler is 8-17(.471) with a walk, a double, a triple, a homer, and three RBI off of Gio. Kris Bryant ($4,800) is 2-5 with a walk and a solo homer against Gonzalez.

Jose Altuve ($5,500) is 6-13(.462) with a double and a RBI against Jaime Garcia. Carlos Gomez ($3,500) is 10-31(.323) with two doubles, a triple, and a pair of RBI against Garcia.

Corey Dickerson ($3,300) is 1-3 with a grand slam against Taijuan Walker.

Look out! Khris Davis ($3,500) is on a tear anyway, and he is 2-2 with a walk and a solo homer against Martin Perez in his career.

Asdrubal Cabrera ($3,500) is only 2-8 against Juan Nicasio, but he has a homer and two RBI. Luckily for Nicasio, he wont have to deal with David Wright. Wright homered twice off of him in just six at bats.

Jason Kipnis ($3,900) is 7-17(.412) with a walk, two doubles, a triple, a homer, and three RBI against Chris Young.

Yunel Escobar ($3,600) is 7-19(.368) with a walk, a double, and four RBI against Ervin Santana. Albert Pujols and Mike Trout are a combined 5-16 with two solo homers off Ervin.

Jon Jay ($3,600) is 2-4 with a homer and two RBI against Tom Koehler.
