The Utah Jazz have assembled an extremely interesting mix of players, but have yet to reach a point where they can compete with the top teams in the West. The most glaring hole on their roster is at the point guard position, and a trade for the Atlanta Hawks’ Jeff Teague would be a sensible way to fill it.

Teague is a strong starting point guard for the Hawks, but they also have Dennis Schroder, who appears ready to take over the starting role. Wary of losing Teague for nothing in free agency next off season, the Hawks have been shopping him for a while now, and Utah makes a ton of sense.

In exchange, the Hawks bring in the 12th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, Trey Burke, who can play backup at point guard and interesting young player Joe Ingles, whose length and versatility would fit well in Atlanta.

Teague to the Jazz is the most exciting part of this trade, though. The Jazz get a stable veteran point guard to lead them and do not have to sacrifice any of their core players to get him. If Dante Exum comes back and looks great next season, then the Jazz can move on from Teague next off season no problem.

However, in the short term, Teague gives the Jazz a legitimate chance to compete with the top-tier teams.
