2. Sacramento Kings
The Kings are heading in a new coaching direction with Dave Joerger next season, a coach who should be capable of controlling tough characters and establishing some more defensive structure and effort. His arrival makes matters betterĀ for Rajon Rondo and DeMarcus Cousins after blatant issues with George Karl, but the future of the 2015-16 assists leader is still up in the air.
This summer, Rondo becomes a free agent. And while heās said he loves playing with Cousins, he still has issues with the Kings organization (who wouldnāt?).
When talking on ESPNās The Jump, Rondo made his feelings clear:
"āThere were too many distractions on and off the court. The organization as a whole, I donāt think was together completely. I think as a team you have to want the best for the next man beside you, and that wasnāt the case with the Sacramento Kings.ā"
A team that doesnāt play for one another, has dysfunction in the front office, and overall chemistry issues with a pair of star personalities that are clearly a handful isnāt a recipe for success.
Rondo leaving is a realĀ possibility, and without any notable point guard options who are likely going to be interested inĀ joining such a situation in Sacramento, could a trade for Rose be something the Kings will pursue?
When considering Rondoās futureĀ and their lack of appeal in free agency, taking a swing with Rose while his trade value is lower could be an option. If his form gradually increases and he completes a new one-two punch with Cousins, the Kings can benefit.
