Bill Murray is an avid baseball fan, and on Wednesday night, the minor league team he co-owns won a title. Murray made sure it was special.

On Wednesday, the Charleston RiverDogs clinched a spot in the South Atlantic League postseason. The class-A affiliate of the New York Yankees became the first half champions of the Southern Division, beating the August GreenJackets 3-0. What made the win even more special was that their owner joined in the celebration.

What made the win even more special was that their owner joined in the celebration.

This would normally be small news in the grand scheme of sports, but not when said owner is none other than Bill Murray. After the win, Murray celebrated on the field and in the locker room with his team, giving them a taste of the big time.

For some of the RiverDogs players, Single-A ball could be as far as their baseball career takes them. For one night, they got to experience Major League treatment, while making a lifelong memory with a comedy legend.

While most people know Murray as one of the funniest people on the planet, he is also very serious about his baseball. Aside from being a partial owner of the RiverDogs, he is also a part owner of the Single-A Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Rays), and the Brockton Rox, a collegiate summer baseball team.

A die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, Murray has seen a lot of losing from his favorite Major League team throughout his lifetime, as the Cubbies have not won a World Series title in 108 years. Led by Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Jon Lester to name a few, the Cubs have the best record in baseball  this season, and have their fans thinking this could be the year they break the “Curse of the Billy Goat.”

One thing is for sure, Murray will be front and center with the champagne if the Cubs win it all in 2016.
