MLB Trade Rumors: 5 destinations for Jose Reyes
Where could Jose Reyes go after being designated for assignment by the Colorado Rockies?
Jose Reyes has been a distraction for the Colorado Rockies for all of 2016. This is due to him being arrested in the fall of 2015 on allegations of domestic violence. Charges were eventually dropped in March of this year.
However, the MLB chose to suspend the 4-time All-Star for 51 games about a month into the 2016 season. He recently finished up his 15 days on the reserve list, so the Rockies had to make a decision. They chose to reinstate Reyes from the reserve list and designate him for assignment. The Rockies now have 10 days to trade or release him.
Reyes is certainly not the player he used to be. His batting average has declined each of the past three seasons, along with his OPS, which has decreased from .877 in 2011 to .688 in 2015. Reyes’ WAR also fell off to -0.2 during his time with the Rockies in 2015. He was traded from the Toronto Blue Jays in the Troy Tulowitzki blockbuster last July.
So Jose Reyes will now be made available for the other 29 teams. He is going to bring baggage, declining play and some negative media attention. A team may be willing to risk it by signing him, so which five teams could be fits?
