Eugene Monroe may be off the Baltimore Ravens sooner than later.

We’re in the heart of the NFL offseason, as the NFL Draft is two months passed, OTAs are ongoing, and the preseason is beginning in about two months. The news has still been active, including the recent knee injury to Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Breshad Perriman.

However, the Ravens may be making a move at another position. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport is reporting that the team could trade or release offensive tackle Eugene Monroe by the end of Wednesday. If not, he could be let go by Thursday.

The report strings from the idea that the Ravens are more interested in giving their 6th overall pick in 2016, Ronnie Stanley plenty of starting reps, rather than keep an often injured Monroe on their team. Stanley stared at Notre Dame for four years and is projected to be a long-term starter.

Monroe has been plagued with injuries over the past few seasons in Baltimore. He played in 11 games in 2014 and only appeared in six in 2015, before being placed on injury reserve. Going with a potentially more durable option in Stanley could make more sense here for the Ravens, who missed Monroe in an AFC Playoff game in 2014.

It looks like we’ll get an answer to the situation around Eugene Monroe soon. What the Ravens could get for him, possibly a draft pick, remains to be seen. They could also get nothing and release him by Thursday.
