Gary Harris. 12. player. 38.
Original pick: Dario Saric (traded to Philadelphia)

Gary Harris was the second player off the board from his own college team. That, as it turns out, was a mistake for the teams who passed on his services.

Harris isn’t going to be an NBA star by any means, and that is why he lands here. However, the soon-to-be 22-year-old guard brings an important and valuable skill set to the table when it comes to the NBA in 2016 and beyond. Gary Harris really defends.

Much of the reason behind Harris’s dip on draft night was because of his lack of size. At 6-foot-4, he doesn’t present “traditional” shooting guard length, but Harris more than makes up for that with guile, craft and athleticism on the defensive end. He is already an above-average defender on opposing shooting guards, and Harris can add value by being able to track point guards with his speed and ability to shed screens.

On the offensive end, Harris isn’t a stud, but he does bring value. He is already a solid shooter, converting 35.4% of his three-point attempts last season, and Harris can act as a capable ball-handler, especially on second units.

This wouldn’t be the flashiest of picks for Orlando, but Denver definitely values Harris in a way that is more than becoming of the number 12 pick.
.
