Wojciech Szczesny to miss Germany match
With a tough match against Germany coming up, Poland will be without their starting keeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Poland will have an even more taunting task when they face off against the defending World Champions Germany on Thursday. In their opening match against Northern Ireland, a match they won 1-0, keeper Wojciech Szczesny injured his thigh when he collided with his defender Lukasz Piszczek and will more than likely sit out against Germany.
According to Sky Sports, Poland manager Adam Nawalka said that, “there is no chance for Szczesny to play tomorrow, the team doctor has made the decision.”
This will mean that Nawalka will need to decide which keeper will take the starting role. He does have two very experienced goalies in AFC Bournemouth’s Artur Boruc and Swansea’s Lukasz Fabianski, however, all Nawalka could tell reporters was that, “tomorrow I will announce who will play in goal.”
Filling Szczesny shoes will be a hard one for whoever takes over. He was able to bounce back from a difficult season with Arsenal two seasons ago, and make the move to Serie A side AS Roma, rejuvenating his career.
Poland couldn’t have asked for a worse match for their number one to miss out on. Szczesny was able to not register a save against Northern Ireland, thanks to his team’s defence being so dominant and giving their opponents very limited chances on goal. Northern Ireland only managed two shots, both not on target against Poland on Sunday.
Now Boruc or Fabianski will need to face off a very tough German side. Fabianski will likely get the nod, considering he made the most saves per goal (2.11), had more clean sheets (9) and played more games than Boruc did this past season, according to Squawka.
