player. 93.
With Ben Simmons presumably set to enter the fold in Philadelphia finding quality shooters to surround him with should become a priority for the Sixers’ front office. Those players will also earn bonus points if they project to be above average defenders. UNLV’s Patrick McCaw is one such prospect, a younger wing who could end up as the best “3-and-D” player in the 2016 class.

In two seasons with the Runnin’ Rebels, McCaw knocked down 36.7 percent of his 341 three-point attempts while taking 6.6 threes per 40 minutes. The 20-year old should see a boost in his offensive success in the NBA as well after playing for a rather dysfunctional UNLV program as a sophomore. McCaw’s offensive value is also enhanced by his passing, having averaged more than four assists per 40 minutes at UNLV.

Where the Missouri native has the potential to be great, though, is on the defensive end. At 6-7 with a 6-10 wingspan, McCaw has great size to defend either wing position, although he’ll need to add significant strength in order to handle some of the league’s bigger small forwards. Nonetheless, he has shown himself to be a valuable defender in passing lanes and on the ball by grabbing 2.5 steals per 40 minutes with a 3.6 percent steal rate during his college career.
