High Salary
Daniel Murphy, Nationals (5,000): We all knew Murphy wouldn’t be able to keep up his near-.400 average for the entire season, but he’s still the MLB leader entering play Thursday with a .359 average. Murphy has crushed right-handed pitching all season, posting an average of .374 along with all 11 of his home runs. That bodes well for his matchup with San Diego Padres righty Erik Johnson (0-3, 7.71 ERA).
Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox (4,900): Boston batters are likely to quite popular on Thursday’s short slate, but Pedroia is still worthy of consideration. He has been the model of consistency, collecting at least one hit in 19 of his last 20 games. He has five hits over his last three games and is always a threat in the Red Sox’s elite lineup.
High Value
Josh Harrison, Pirates (3,300): Harrison has just one hit over his last five games, but his average still sits at .304. If Harrison’s bat wakes up, he’ll add to his value with stolen bases. Harrison has four steals in June and 12 overall on the season. He’s 2-for-7 with a double in his career against New York Mets starter Bartolo Colon, so Thursday could provide a nice bounce-back chance.
Kelly Johnson, Mets (2,800): Since returning to the Mets in a trade on June 8, Johnson has gone 7-for-17 with three extra-base hits. He should continue to hit in the middle of the Mets’ injury-ravaged lineup, which further boosts his value. Johnson is 1-for-3 in limited head-to-head experience against Pittsburgh Pirates starter Juan Nicasio (5-5, 5.34 ERA).
