Our goal is to help you win DraftKings contests with consistently strong lineups. To accomplish that, we’ll be highlighting some higher salary players worth paying up for, and some value picks that will help you save salary in key areas. These picks are specifically for DraftKings lineups, so all references to prices and fantasy points are based on DK figures.
As always, be sure to double-check final MLB lineups and monitor weather situations before locking in your DFS lineups.
High Salary
Josh Donaldson, Blue Jays (5,000): Don’t look now, but the reigning American League Most Valuable Player is rounding into form. Donaldson has 13 hits, including three home runs, over his current eight-game hitting streak. He’s 2-for-2 with a home run in his career against Philadelphia Phillies starter Aaron Nola. This play is almost too easy.
Nick Castellanos, Tigers (4,800): Castellanos continues to show that he’s Detroit’s best young player, and he’s once again a solid DFS play on Thursday. Castellanos will face Kansas City Royals left-hander Danny Duffy, against whom he is 5-for-16 in his still-young career. Castellanos has nine hits, including two home runs, over his last 10 games.
High Value
Travis Shaw, Red Sox (3,900): Shaw gets overshadowed by Boston’s major stars (David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts, etc.), but he’s quietly having a strong season as the team’s full-time third baseman. He’s hitting .269, including .296 against right-handers, with 37 RBIs. He stands out as a cheap path for exposure to the Red Sox-Baltimore Orioles game.
Adrian Beltre, Rangers (3,400): Even at the age of 37, Beltre just keeps on producing. He ranks second on the first-place Rangers in home runs (10) and RBIs (40). On Thursday, he’ll face Oakland right-hander Daniel Mengden, who will be making just his second career start. Beltre is a strong option at a sizable discount.
