DraftKings Early MLB Picks For June 16

There are only three afternoon games on getaway day, which makes this the smaller tournament of the day. There are a few good options. Let’s find out what the past stats say!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Daniel Mengden pitched pretty well in Cincinnati in his debut. Do you trust him against Texas?

Matt Wisler has never faced the Reds, but do you trust him against anyone after giving up 13 runs in his last two starts?

Best Bet:

Colby Lewis ($8,100): Lewis followed his blow up against the Angels on May 25th by allowing four runs in his last three starts. His season ERA sits at 3.00, and he still hasn’t lost a game. His career numbers against the A’s are pretty good to boot. The A’s are only hitting .231 off of Lewis in 195 at bats with just three homers and 14 RBI. He has only struck out 28, but there aren’t any big strikeout threats this afternoon. You are better off chasing the win, and against Daniel Mengden, Lewis has a good chance at that elusive W.

Honorable Mention:

James Paxton ($8,800): Paxton’s only appearance against the Rays was in his major league debut back on September 7th of 2013. He gave up just one earned run on four hits and a walk in the win while striking out three. That said, only Desmond Jennings and Evan Longoria remain from that team. Longoria did the damage, hitting a two run homer off of him.

Dark Horse:

Blake Snell, ($8,700): SnellĀ will get a chance to stick for good in the Rays rotation. This audition comes against the Mariners. Snell held the Yankees to one run in six innings back on April 23rd. With a tiny slate, Snell could be worth a flier today.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about ā€œstackingā€ pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

A.J. Pierzynski ($2,500) is 4-10 with a double, a homer, and five RBI against Dan Straily. Erick Aybar ($2,200) is 6-14(.429) with a walk and a RBI. He is worth a look if he is able to play.

Jed Lowrie ($3,000) is 9-26(.346) with a walk, a homer, and two RBI off of Colby Lewis. Coco Crisp ($3,100) is 8-27(.296) with seven walks, two doubles, and two RBI. Billy Butler is only 3-20, but he does have a homer and four RBI off of Lewis.
